Some ingredients to be avoided in our daily life …

Ayurveda has been on the forefront for some amazing health advices … The science of life, has given importance equally to both preventive and curative measures… In this direction, we have been doing our best in bringing to you, some rare concepts are unique to ayurveda…

In the last article we had read about what to be consumed everyday … Now let us know what are not advisable to be consumed very frequently. The list goes as follows,

1. Dried meat and vegetables – popularly described as shushka shaaka and mansa in ayurveda classics, this group of ingredients of your meal would provide no nourishment. Here, the word dried and dehydrated can apply to frozen meat and vegetables, processed and half baked frozen vegetables etc which are processed and deep freezed. Along with zero nourishment, it can also aggravate vata dosha in the body.

2. Shaaluka and bisa – things like lotus rind which is popularly used in recipes in many parts of the world, shouldn’t be consumed frequently… The reason may be due to the possibility of too many parasite population it would be hosting …

3. Koorchika and kilata – these ingredients told in our classics may be something comparable to paneer and cheese. Yes, u heard it right… These are not to be consumed every day. Owing to its heavy fat and protien content, it might be a leading cause of cardio vascular diseases and cancer. Also, being very heavy for digestion it might be reduce our digestive fire (Agni) and cause associated complaints of ama and others.

4. Meat of buffalo and cow – any red meat in the other sense, is rightly told not to be consumed more often. It’s obvious because all of us know the bad effects of red meat on health. It is related to high protien content and cancers, particularly of the intestine … And it need not be stressed upon that the effect of meat consumption has a dreaded effect on environment…

5. Dadhi, maasha – dadhi is nothing but curds and maasha is blackgram/black lentils. Mainly because both are heavy for digestion and cause impair the otherwise good Digestive capacity. They both contribute to increasing kapha and pitta doshas too…

6. Matsya – varieties of fishes have been a leading cause in causing diseases related to skin and is a part of many virudha -aharas i.e. fish, according to ayurveda is not compatible with many varieties of food.

So, these are some of the frequently used food which are popularly known to be healthy but are actually NOT….. So let’s enlighten ourself to know the facts and burst the myths of diet …
